Why Bad Thoughts Are So Bad

Thoughts are energy in motion, and the quality of our thoughts colors not only the energies around us but also the energies within our body. Want to avoid ill health, wrinkles, loneliness, depression? Watch what you're thinking about! That's right, watch your thoughts, be conscious of every thought that goes through your mind.

Your belief system shapes your thoughts without you even being aware of this fact. If you're one of the few lucky ones who've had a happy childhood, you're more likely to have a positive inner belief system. You're more likely to have a positive image of yourself and of life. The others, the less lucky ones will more likely suffer from insecurities, low self-esteem, fear and a chronic negative outlook on life. If you were brought up with parents who were constantly battling with each other, and fighting for their existence, you'll grow up believing that life is hard and difficult and you have to fight your way through to exist. You will probably also have a negative belief system about relationships which makes it difficult for you to have and maintain a happy relationship with a partner and you'll more likely than not suffer from low self-esteem and have no self-love.

Whatever the reason may be, in this article I'd like to focus on how and why negative thoughts are so bad for you. The reasons are many and I'll begin with your health because that is the most important for all of us. Your health should be on top of the list for without it you can literally achieve nothing. Chronic negative thoughts have a negative effect on every cell of your body. When you think negative thoughts your brain releases poisonous chemicals that rush through your blood streams throughout your body, causing damage to your nervous system, to your organs and other tissues of your physical body. In other words every cell in your body turns negative. This might not be noticeable at first but as you grow in age, the wear and tear will show. It is believed amongst other illnesses chronic negativity can even cause cancer. Science has discovered exactly what damage negativity does to your body and in contrast how joy and laughter or even a smile can spread a rush of healing chemicals that makes the cells of your body dance with joy!

Negative feelings cover the whole gamut of human emotions, frustration, annoyance, irritability, anger, worry, anxiety and depression even, guilt, hate, stress, jealousy and fear. An overdose of any or all of these feelings over many long years will have a negative effect on your physical body. Negative thoughts and good health cannot tango gracefully together. Your immune system will suffer and you'll be drained of all your energies. And there's more harm done. Negativity leads to low self-esteem, exhaustion, drugs and/or eating disorders, extreme overeating or loss of appetite. It can also lead to loss of sleep. Negative thoughts also act as a barrier to the flow of abundance in your life. When you are in a negative state of mind you do not attract, you cannot attract anything good to you. We attract to us what energies we put out and our thoughts are energies that radiate from us. So if you harbor negative thoughts you'll be attracting negative people and negative events to you. This in turn supports your beliefs and you feel stuck and you wonder why everything seems to be going wrong for you.

How about how your negativity affects other people around you, your family, your friends, your colleagues at work. Have you ever wondered how others feel when you are wrapped up in your own misery? You must have experienced how you feel when one of your friends is negative and shares or imposes his or her bad feelings onto you. You must know how uncomfortable that feels.

This reminds me of an episode that happened to me some years ago in a Buddhist Monastery of all places! I had volunteered to cook a meal for 35 people and I had three assistant volunteers. Helga was peeling the potatoes when I was informed that there was going to be another 5 guests for lunch. So I asked Helga to go down to the cellar and to fetch more potatoes. Helga went down and fetched the potatoes but when she returned she had obviously talked herself into a frenzy! She seemed outraged, she dumped the basket of potatoes on to the table, her face red, she turned to me and screamed that she wasn't going to peel anything any more and that's not what she came for and she stomped out slamming the door so hard it made the pots rattle. We were in shock! There was total silence in the kitchen. I reshuffled the load of work and the rest of us quite shaken, carried on. No one said anything. It was an unusual outburst in such calm serene surroundings to say the least. It hurt more because in a monastery everyone lets down their guard and feels vulnerable. No one expects to be attacked or aggressed in a monastery. Of course it upset us terribly. Twenty minutes later Helga returned all smiles, she walked in all chirpy smiling from ear to ear, put on her apron and said, 'Well, now I feel much better.' I looked at her in astonishment and all I could say was, 'Helga, I'm happy you feel better. But we certainly could have done without all that negative energy which is now here in this kitchen and in the food as well. Please leave us we can manage fine without you.'

You see, it is selfish and unfair to other people for an angry person to pollute the air with their negative energy! It's like dumping trash on everyone. It is a total waste of time and energy to have even one negative thought. It serves no one. On the contrary it does more harm than good all round.

Oh and one more thing a negative person is so not sexy! There is no sex appeal in negativity.

In the past I often heard people say 'I can't help it this is the way I am. I can't change that.' I always thought that was nonsense. I don't hear that very often nowadays any more, obviously, because we know better. We know that we can change the way we think. We can make our choices. We know that we can choose to think positive thoughts instead of negative ones. Obviously there's a lot of work and effort involved but that's another article. With training you can learn to change your belief system and so change your thoughts from negative to positive.

If you are someone who even sometimes has negative thoughts, don't wait any longer do something about that now and watch how your life will change for the better.
